ChatGPT ads for tradies: which trades the sum works for

Whether these ads pay for a tradie comes down to one sum. What 1 job is worth to you, against what a run of clicks costs. That sum works differently for a locksmith than for a painter. Here are the 8 trades I've written a page for, sorted by the shape yours is in.

The 2 shapes a trade sum comes in

Some jobs get bought in the hour they get asked about. A lockout at 2am, a burst pipe, a switchboard that's dead, a roof leaking in the rain. 1 call-out can cover a whole night of clicks.

The rest get quoted and slept on. A repaint, a driveway, a deck, a new air conditioner going in. The person asks, gathers 3 prices, and picks a winner weeks later. 1 won quote can cover weeks of ads.

Australian agencies put the launch of these ads here at April 2026, and OpenAI hasn't published a date. Neither shape has a published result yet. Month 1 is where you get yours.

Same-hour trades: one call-out against a night of clicks

Here is the sum in made-up numbers you swap for yours. Say a call-out is worth $300 to you after your costs, as an example. OpenAI suggests new advertisers start at US$3 to US$5 a click. US dollars, so a bit more here. Say 15 clicks land across a night, and say 1 of those 15 books the job. That job covers the night and leaves you in front. I made that ratio up, and yours will be different.

Quoted trades: one win against weeks of ads

Same sum, longer fuse. Say a repaint is worth $4,000 to you after materials and your time, again as an example. Say you set the daily cap at $25. OpenAI's rule is that a day can spend up to double the cap, and a week up to 7 times it. So the worst week on those numbers is $175 of ad spend. 1 won quote pays for a lot of those weeks, but you wait longer to see it.

What changes in the ad between the 2 shapes

  • A same-hour ad leads with the hour. On the road tonight beats a list of services.
  • A quoted ad leads with the price question, because that is what the person typed.
  • The ad is a title, a few lines of copy and a page. OpenAI reads all 3 when it works out which chats you belong in.
  • A same-hour page needs a number on the first screen, big enough to hit with a thumb.
  • A quoted page needs how you work a price out, or the person goes back to the chat.
  • The hints describe the chat, not search words. OpenAI says they guide the match, no more. How ChatGPT decides who sees your ad has the detail.
  • In NSW the licence number has to be in the ad itself for the licensed trades among them, not only on your page. Other states have their own rule, so check yours.

2 things tradies want to know about the 2 shapes

Which shape tells me sooner whether it works?

The same-hour ones. The job closes the night it comes in, so a month of ads gives you a month of answers. A quoted trade might send 5 prices out in month 1 and win 2 of them in month 3. Nobody has published an Australian trade result either way, so we read your own numbers.

Can I run both shapes at once?

Yes, and a roofer probably should. The leak today and the re-roof next winter are 2 different ads pointing at 2 different pages. OpenAI locks the aim and the billing once a campaign is made, so the second shape is a second campaign rather than an edit.

Let ChatGPT show your business to high-intent customers

  • ChatGPT has released paid ads, and this changes the marketing game absolutely.
  • If you missed out on Facebook ads in 2007, where anything you posted would have popped off, don't miss out on the next big ad platform.
  • Unlike Facebook, where people get interrupted mid doom-scroll, ChatGPT shows your business to people who are already researching something related.
  • That makes ChatGPT a cheat code. The engine your customers ask for advice shows your business right under its answer.
  • Most marketing agencies charge you thousands before you see any results.
  • We work for you, for free. You just cover your own ad spend. The first month is free, so you see the results for yourself before you pay us anything.
  • Then, if you want to keep getting those results month after month, we sort out a rev-share or a retainer. A rev-share is a cut of what it makes you. A retainer is a flat monthly fee. Agreed in writing before month 2 starts.
  • In the free month, we don't get paid if you don't get paid. After that, it's the rev-share or the retainer you chose.
  • Only 10 a month. The work up front is heavy and brings us no income at first. That is all we can take.

If the ads make you nothing, you pay us nothing and we stop there. You will have paid OpenAI for the clicks, and that is all.
