ChatGPT ads · painters · Australia
The quote takes a week. They ask ChatGPT tonight.
They want a price on the repaint. Two painters said they'd ring back and didn't. So they ask ChatGPT instead, and your ad can sit under the answer they get. I write the ad and I run it. We work for free and you cover your own ad spend. We only get paid a cut of what it makes you.
What people type when they want a painting price
They're picturing the room and worrying about the cost. This is the kind of thing that gets typed:
- "how much to paint a 3 bedroom house inside"
- "how long does a whole house repaint take"
- "do painters move the furniture or do I have to"
- "my render is flaking off, does it need sealing before paint"
- "how much to paint the outside of a weatherboard house"
- "can someone spray my kitchen cupboards instead of replacing them"
- "what paint stops a bathroom ceiling going mouldy again"
Half of those aren't asking for a painter yet. They're asking about paint. I write hints aimed at those chats as well, because that's where the job starts.
Nobody rings them back for a week
Painting is planned work. They're selling, moving in, or handing a rental back. There is no 3am job in this trade.
What they hate is the wait. They ring 3 painters and one gets back to them on Thursday. So your ad doesn't promise a truck in an hour. It promises a price this week, fixed before the drop sheets come out.
It changes how we count month 1. A click is someone tapping the ad. Today's click can be a job in 3 weeks. So we count quotes booked while we wait. Quotes booked tell us the ad works. After the free first month, if you want to keep it going, we sort out a rev-share or a retainer.
Photos do the selling on your page
A painter sells with photos. The person on their phone is trying to picture their own hallway. ChatGPT reads that page too when it picks your ad, so the page has to match the ad.
- 4 to 6 photos of finished rooms and houses. Yours, not stock ones.
- A before and after of one job. Same wall, same angle.
- A phone number big enough to press without scrolling.
- What the price covers. Prep, coats, furniture, clean up.
- How the quote happens. You come out, they get the price in writing, then the work starts.
The words that get you the quote call
Your ad is a title, one line of copy, and the page it sends people to. Here is one for a repaint:
- Title: "House painting quote this week"
- Copy: "Inside and out. Fixed price before the drop sheets come out. Photos of my last jobs on the page."
Then say the thing a cheap quote leaves out. 2 coats. Cutting in by hand. Furniture put back and the floors left clean. Put your own town in it, and the week you can really come.
In NSW the licence number has to be in the ad itself, not only on your page. Other states have their own rule, so check yours.
10 quotes, and what you win off them
Count this one in quotes, not calls. Say 10 quotes go out and you win 3 of them. I made that 3 in 10 up. Say an inside repaint is worth $4,000 to you in our dollars, which is an example, so put your own number in. Say those 10 quotes took 100 clicks to book, and I made the 100 up as well. OpenAI suggests starting at US$3 to US$5 for a click. US dollars, so a bit more here. At the top of that range 100 clicks is US$500 of ad spend, sitting against 3 won repaints. There is no published number for a painting call on ChatGPT here, so month 1 is where yours comes from.
Who gets the repaint now
I have no figure for this, so take it as what I would expect. A lot of repaints come off a builder who wants the site finished, or an agent getting a rental ready between tenants. Some comes from the last customer's sister, weeks after she saw the hallway. Quote sites take their share, where one form has 4 painters ringing the same afternoon. What's new is the owner who prices the job at night by asking ChatGPT. I haven't yet seen a painter's ad sitting under one of those answers.
No painter in Australia really knows about this yet, and if they do, they are doubtful because it is new.
Let ChatGPT show your business to high-intent customers
- ChatGPT has released paid ads, and this changes the marketing game absolutely.
- If you missed out on Facebook ads in 2007, where anything you posted would have popped off, don't miss out on the next big ad platform.
- Unlike Facebook, where people get interrupted mid doom-scroll, ChatGPT shows your business to people who are already researching something related.
- That makes ChatGPT a cheat code. The engine your customers ask for advice shows your business right under its answer.
- Most marketing agencies charge you thousands before you see any results.
- We work for you, for free. You just cover your own ad spend. The first month is free, so you see the results for yourself before you pay us anything.
- Then, if you want to keep getting those results month after month, we sort out a rev-share or a retainer. A rev-share is a cut of what it makes you. A retainer is a flat monthly fee. Agreed in writing before month 2 starts.
- In the free month, we don't get paid if you don't get paid. After that, it's the rev-share or the retainer you chose.
- Only 10 a month. The work up front is heavy and brings us no income at first. That is all we can take.
If the ads make you nothing, you pay us nothing and we stop there. You will have paid OpenAI for the clicks, and that is all.
3 things painters want to know
Will I get 20 quote calls and no jobs?
Painting brings quote calls when the ad brings anything. The fix is in the wording. Say how you price a job and what the price covers, before they ring. People hunting the cheapest still call, but fewer of them do.
I've got no photos. Can we still start?
We can, but photos are the thing that sells you. What's on your phone from the last few jobs will do. Shoot the next one before you pack up and I'll set the page up to hold them.
My quiet stretch is winter. Can the ad follow the work?
Yes. Inside work fills the cold months and outside work fills the warm ones. We change the ad and the hints with the season. The daily cap that follows your diary is on the budget page for a tradie.

What I do, and what it costs you, is on the ChatGPT ads page. People price a repaint in their head long before they pick a painter, and that case is on ChatGPT ads for service businesses. For how the sum shifts between a call-out trade and a quoted one, read ChatGPT ads for tradies. Your quote call has to survive the hop from the ad to your phone, which is how a ChatGPT ad turns into a lead. If you quote exterior work with the roof in the same visit, the roofers page is worth a look. Painters who also do the timber repairs should read the carpenters page.
30 minutes, then a straight answer
30 minutes on the phone, mostly questions about your business and your customers. You get 2 straight answers. Do people ask ChatGPT for what you do? And is it worth a run, where we only get paid a rev-share or a retainer, sorted once you have seen the results, to find out?
